Strider balance bikes for kids — start here
What is a balance bike?
A balance bike is a kids' bike with no pedals and no training wheels. Children sit on the saddle and push along the ground with their feet, which lets them practise balancing and steering together from the very first ride — the skills tricycles and training wheels never teach. Once a child can balance unaided, moving up to a pedal bike is usually quick and undramatic.
What age can a child start?
Most children start around 18 months and keep riding until about five. The Strider 12 range is built for ages 1–4, while the Strider 14x suits ages 3–6 and converts to a pedal bike later on. For younger babies, the 2-in-1 Rocking Bike adds a rocking base and starts from 6 months. The number that actually matters is not age but inseam measured against the bike's seat height.
How to choose the right size
Measure your child's inseam from crotch to floor with bare feet, then compare it to each model's seat-height range. The seat should sit at or below that measurement so the child can put both feet flat on the ground while seated — the position that lets them control the bike themselves. A bike set too tall is the most common reason a child refuses to ride.
