Race Rules & Regulations

We ask every rider and every family to respect the rules and to race with good sportsmanship — win well, lose well, forgive well.

Last revised 15 February 2025 · version 2025-02-15

The short version

The five that matter most: a certified helmet and closed-toe trainers, every time · your own genuine Strider bike · one parent in the start area and nobody on the track during a race · no communication devices between parent and rider · cutting out of your lane in the first 3 metres, or any contact, is a foul.

This summary is here to help you get started — the full rules below are what the officials judge by.

📋Before you race

What every parent or guardian is responsible for, and who may enter.

  • Parents and guardians are responsible for reading, understanding, and complying with every rule on this page.
  • You must sign the waiver and register your rider before the rider enters the track — every time.
  • You must provide proof of the rider's age, or be prepared to sign a legal affidavit certifying it.
  • Age groups are based on the rider's age on the day of the event — classes are 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6–7 years old. For a multi-day event, the first day of the event decides the age group.
  • Only genuine, licensed Strider bikes may race, and every rider must have their own bike. Sharing or borrowing a bike is not allowed.
    • The 2, 3, and 4-year-old classes race on a Strider 12” only.
    • The 3, 4, 5, and 6–7-year-old classes race on a Strider 14X only.
  • Start-gate positions for the first race are assigned by the organiser using a random draw in the timing program.
  • I grant the organisers and media staff permission to freely use images and video taken at the event for public relations and advertising, and I will not assert any right — such as portrait rights — to refuse their publication.

🪖What your rider wears

Your child's health, comfort, and safety are your responsibility.

  • A bicycle helmet must be worn at all times while riding on the track. It must meet SG, CE, US CPSC, DOT, EN, TISI (มอก.), or an equivalent safety standard.
    • The helmet must fit the rider's head properly, with the chin strap fastened snugly.
    • Motorcycle helmets and toddler bump caps are not allowed.
  • Rubber-soled trainers with full toe coverage, securely fastened to the foot, are required.
    • No flip-flops, no sandals (including heel-strap sandals), and no slip-on shoes on the track.
    • No cleated or spiked shoes.
  • RecommendedElbow pads, knee pads, and gloves, to protect joints and hands in a fall.
  • RecommendedLong sleeves and long trousers for skin protection — leggings give children the most freedom of movement. Dress your child for the weather on the day.
  • RecommendedKeep your child nourished and hydrated throughout the event.

🚲Bike regulations

Parents and guardians are responsible for making sure the bike is legal and safe before the rider races.

  • 12” Enjoy — 12Sport and 12Pro models only (STR-Carbon is not allowed), and the bike must be full factory spec: stock wheels, handlebar, saddle, and seatpost.
  • 12” Racing — 12Sport, 12Pro, and STR-Carbon are all allowed. You may race a stock bike or one upgraded with aftermarket wheels, handlebar, saddle, or seatpost.
  • 14X — the handlebar, saddle, and wheels may be changed.
  • Aftermarket components such as wheels, saddles, and handlebars are acceptable, but are subject to safety inspection and approval by a Strider Official.
  • Run the safety check on the bike before every race.
    • The bike must be properly maintained and in good working order.
    • The bike must be properly fitted to the rider, with the final decision made by a Strider Official.
    • The seatpost and handlebar must not extend beyond their minimum insertion lines.
    • All nuts and bolts must be tight.
    • Grips must be in good condition, with no sharp edges protruding anywhere on the bike.
  • Modifying the frame or the front fork is not allowed.
    • The stock wheelbase is required. Extending, modifying, or welding the fork dropouts to lengthen the wheelbase is not allowed.
    • The stock wheel-mounting locations must be used.
  • All axles must use a cap nut or have their threads covered — no sharp protrusions. Axles must not extend more than 20 mm (0.78 in) from the fork, and pegs are not allowed.
  • Brakes
    • 12” — brakes of any kind are not allowed and must be removed before bike inspection and before racing.
    • 14X Pedal — at least one brake is required, front, rear, or both.
    • Disc brakes are not allowed.
  • Wheel size — any aftermarket wheels and tyres must be 12” on a Strider 12”, and 14” on a Strider 14X, front and rear.
  • There must be a handlebar plug in the end of each grip.
  • 14X Pedal — the chainwheel, crank arms, chain, pedals, and rear sprocket may be upgraded.
    • Pedals must be small children's pedals, with no sharp protrusions.
    • The rear sprocket must be single speed only.

🏁On the track

Rules 1–11 below keep their original numbers, because the penalty table refers to them.

  1. Riders may be assisted in the start area only, and only one parent or guardian is allowed in the start area.
  2. Parents and guardians are not allowed on the track during a race.
  3. The finish is reached when the front tyre crosses the finish line.
  4. Communication devices of any kind between parent and rider during a race are not allowed — Bluetooth earpieces, phones, small talk headsets, walkie-talkies, and megaphones included.⚠️ Found in use: immediate foul without warning — down 3 places.
  5. During the start procedure every parent must stand behind the line. Touching or pushing a rider is not allowed.
  6. When the MC calls “READY”, all parents must be silent and stop talking to the riders. Once the start gate drops, normal cheering is fine again.
  7. If a rider cannot leave the start within 40 seconds after the signal ends, the officials will place them last in the next round. If more than one rider is affected, the order between them is drawn by lot.
  8. The front wheel must touch the start gate at both contact points until the light turns green.
    • Point 1 is the gate itself, point 2 is the ground at the gate. The front wheel must not back away from the gate and must not lift off the ground.
    • Do not lift the front wheel over the start gate.
    • RecommendedFor the rider's own safety, keep the rear wheel on the ground.
  9. Tape on the ground marks a straight 3-metre lane for each rider in front of the start gate, to prevent cutting across, swerving, squeezing, and bumping at the start.
    • Within the 3-metre zone every rider must stay in their own lane. If the front wheel crosses out of the lane, it is a foul.
    • After the 3-metre zone, changing lanes is allowed as normal.
    • But if a lane change after the 3-metre zone causes an accident for another rider — intentionally or not — it is a foul.
    • If a rider leaves the gate, loses balance or wobbles and steps on the lane line, but the wheel does not cross out of their lane and they do not squeeze or hit anyone, it is not a foul.
    • If rider A crosses into the next lane and hits or squeezes rider B, rider A is dropped 3 places and the other riders move up accordingly. Rider B's result stands as raced and cannot be adjusted.⚠️ Down 3 places
    • Exception: if rider A only broke the rule because rider B in the adjacent lane illegally squeezed them first and caused them to lose control, rider A is not penalised. This also covers a knock-on effect that travels from one lane to another.
  10. If a rider hits or knocks down cones more than twice, intentionally or not, it is a foul.
  11. Contact during a race is not allowed: harming another rider, squeezing, hitting, or bumping on the straights or in the corners, and violent gestures such as kicking, shoving, punching, pulling, or deliberately causing another rider to crash.⚠️ Direct foul — down 3 places, without warning.

ℹ️ These rules are applied strictly to: 12” Racing 2-year-olds in the final · 12” Racing and 14X 3-year-olds in the semi-final and final · the 4, 5, and 6–7-year-old classes in every round.

🦵The 14X Pedal start

Extra rules that apply only to the 14X Pedal class.

  • When setting off, one foot must always be on a pedal — left or right, whichever the rider prefers.
  • Riders must not scoot forward with their feet when setting off.
  • Within the first 1 metre from the start, a rider who loses balance may put one foot down to steady themselves — for balance only. Never use both feet to push forward.

⚖️Penalties

Penalties for breaking rule 8 (the start gate), rule 9 (the 3-metre lane), and rule 10 (the cones). Fouls accumulate across the event.

  • Qualifier, Last Chance, Quarter-Final, and Semi-Final rounds
    • First foul — down 1 place.
    • Second foul — down 2 places.
    • Third foul — down 3 places.
  • Final round
    • With no prior foul in the event — down 3 places.
    • With a prior foul in the event — dropped to last place.
  • Breaking rule 1 or rule 2 (parents in the start area and on the track) brings one warning first. After that, the parent may not bring their rider to the start for one round. If it happens again, or happens in the final, the rider is dropped 3 places and the other riders move up accordingly.

🚫Conduct at the event

We take this seriously, because the event exists to develop the sport for young people.

  • Alcohol and narcotics of any kind are prohibited in the event area. If found, the rider, their family, and their party will be asked to leave the event premises.
  • Any parent, team head coach, or official who behaves inappropriately in their role — bad manners, or inappropriate, abusive, or violent language towards riders, officials, or other parents — leading to quarrels or physical harm, spoiling the atmosphere, or damaging the track or race equipment, during or after the competition and through any channel.⚠️ The riders involved are withdrawn from the competition, a 50,000 baht fine is imposed on both parties, those who behaved inappropriately are removed from the event premises, and they are banned from the brand's competitive events indefinitely.
  • The organisers will enforce the penalties set out here, up to and including legal prosecution to the fullest extent, in order to protect the purpose of the event — developing youth sport so that the competitors get the greatest possible benefit from it.
  • If such conduct makes it impossible for the event to continue, the responsible party must compensate the organisers for the full amount of the expenses they incurred.

📣Appealing a decision

  • Only the rider's own parent has the right to file an appeal.
  • You must file immediately after that round finishes — within 1 minute of the last rider in the heat crossing the line. After that, the referee's decision is final.
  • Fouls are reviewed using footage from the official race camera only.
  • To appeal the race committee's decision, you must lodge a 2,000 baht protest bond with the committee. The committee will review the case again using the organiser's photos and video only. If your appeal succeeds, the bond is returned; if it does not, the committee reserves the right to forfeit it.
  • The committee's decision is final.

ℹ️ Note: all of these rules are published to everyone before the competition, so “I didn't know” cannot be used as an excuse.
